We are very proud to share one of the newest ISRS Guidelines covering best practices in SRS and SBRT for intracranial and extracranial indications.
Published in the Journal of Neuro-Oncology in April 2025: Large vestibular schwannoma treated using a cranial nerve sparing approach with planned subtotal microsurgical resection and stereotactic radiosurgery: meta-analysis and International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) practice guidelines
Lead author Prof Dr Méd Constantin Tuleasca, MD, PhD describes the results:
"The new guidelines represent a tremendous achievement by the ISRS guidelines committee and offer evidence-based recommendations for managing large vestibular schwannomas using a combined approach (microsurgical resection followed by stereotactic radiosurgery on the residual tumor). Developed from a comprehensive meta-analysis, these guidelines advocate for this dual-modality treatment paradigm that aims to optimize tumor control while preserving cranial nerve function, particularly for the facial nerve. Despite the challenges inherent in summarizing the literature, this contribution clarifies the role of subtotal surgery followed by stereotactic radiosurgery, setting a new benchmark in patient care and providing essential insights to optimize treatment approaches for patients with large vestibular schwannoma."
